Blog Post #3
I have used Microsoft Word as a student from kindergarten to college. However, as I've gotten older I've utilized Microsoft Word more especially while in college and having the ability to take online courses. In elementary school, the majority of assignments were done in class or with a pencil and paper as homework assignments. I mainly used Microsoft Word in elementary school when typing up a book report or typing up my science experiment to put on poster board. However, now I use my Microsoft Word daily, spending hours behind the screen diligently working. In college, I've used Microsoft Word to write essays and to take notes in class. I've seen my teachers use Microsoft Word more so in college than I ever did in elementary school, middle school, and high school. I've witnessed teachers using Microsoft to write lesson plans, create and edit their class syllabus, and to send home information to parents about activities and events coming up.
I learned at a young age the importance of originality and not copyrighting anyones materials. I was in the IB program in high school, so I received 35+ college credits before even being in college through multiple essays, tests, science projects, etc. that I had to do. I know how important it is to cite your sources where you've obtained information from in order to provide further knowledge for the reader and to ensure your credibility. As a teacher, I intend to develop my own instructional materials and to ensure my students understand what copyright is.
In my classroom, for the academic dishonesty issue I would utilize the website "turnitin.com" in order to ensure my students do not plagiarize. Students could also utilize this cite to see if their information is properly cited and if not, they can see where they need to make revisions. This cite also enables me to see if my students try to buy an essay or use a students essay from a previous year. For the cyberbullying issue, I want to inform my students about cyberbullying and what it is, and the process on the best ways to reach out for help and how to react. By informing my students about the severity of cyberbullying and the necessary ways to deal with this if any of my students were to be affected, this can prevent any of my students from bullying their peers online and can better ensure their safety.
I responded to Jacob and Mallory's blog posts and enjoyed reading and hearing their thoughts on this weeks topics!

Hey Noelle,
ReplyDeleteI too have been using Microsoft word since I can remember. I feel like we grew up with technology so it was very easy for us to adapt to it. I also discussed turnitin as one of my tools because of the fact we use it now! I really enjoyed reading your post.
You well explained how you’ve used MS Word as a student (both in K-12 and at FSU) and how you’ve seen your teachers use it.
