Blog Journal #5
I chose to look at the ELA standards for kindergarteners. The standards listed were basic and mainly consisted of the students being exposed to different types of technology when it comes to writing. The technology used for this grade involves a SmartBoard, storybook creator websites, and paint programs. I do feel prepared to implement this technology in my classroom as I've been exposed to all of this growing up. I've had to observe/volunteer in education classrooms and have helped kids work with SmartBoards. I also had to use a SmartBoard for one of my previous classes for a presentation. It's important for students to be exposed to technology at a young age so when the complexity of technology progresses over the years, the students are not behind.

One tool on CPALMS that I would use in my classroom is the Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs). This involves the use of lesson plans and critical thinking skills. Students use their experiences and knowledge to solve current issues. Exposing children to critical thinking situations can help enable them to be successful in future endeavors.

If I'm teaching students in high school, I might use the remind app. I've used this tool commonly in my sorority to communicate important announcements coming up, and I think it could be utilized in a classroom setting very well too. As students, we're not always looking on our emails and important messages can get lost in our inbox where as everyone see the messages on their phones instantly. https://www.remind.com/

I commented on Haley Singer and Morgan Geiss.

  1. The remind app sounds so cool. I have actually never heard of it. I sometimes use my calendar app but I feel like it is simply not enough sometimes. I also refrain from using it because it is not aesthetically pleasing enough, guilty as charged. I loved your post! I look forward to reading next weeks.

  2. Hi, Noelle

I am impressed by your experience with SmartBoards. You made a good point that exposing children to critical thinking situations can help enable them to be successful in future endeavors.

By the way, thanks for sharing the Remind app. I would check it out.
