Since I'm a Communication Science Disorders major, I do not wish to maintain a course website. As a future speech-language pathologist, every client that I have will present a different set of communication problems which are private and personal to them. Posting things about my clients would violate the HIPAA laws. For instance, discussing my weekly plans and goals for my patient online could violate their trust and make them feel uncomfortable. However, I'm not opposed to posing activities or general ways to help my client practice target goals. For example, having at home activities available for my patients and their parents to practice at home may help them overcome their disability or disorder at hand, and could enable them to come more prepared to my sessions. I do think course websites could be important to utilize in some contexts such as with at home activities for my patients to practice with, however for teachers I don't think course websites are that useful. Parents are busy working and 9-5 jobs, and I doubt many parents have the time to look at course websites. I think posting general information, weekly plans, newsletters and other things may be useful for parents to look at, but I don't think it's necessary for teachers to go above and beyond/dedicate a lot of time to the website. I much prefer emails sent to me weekly, as I'm sure other parents would too.

In the future, I intend to use technology to help my clients practice target goals as mentioned above. I also hope to use smart boards in my sessions to encourage creativity and fun while working towards goals. I also hope to work with children that use AAC devices to communicate their wants and needs. I also intend to look at other individuals blogs to learn tips on how to become the best SLP and professional possible. As mentioned in the podcast, we will continue to enhance our understanding and learning when it comes to our field and professional development, beyond just our college years.

On the Web Evaluation assignment, I learned how to accurately find websites that are reliable and provide the most accurate evidence. I like the idea of creating forms for students to fill out to best help aid them in tasks. I did struggle a little with this assignment mainly because I've been out of the country in Guatemala with no internet and have not had the appropriate amount of time to dedicate to it.
I commented on Alina Korray and Kemory's blog post.

  1. You made a good point that many parents do not have the time to look at course websites. I agree with you that we will continue to enhance our understanding and learning when it comes to our field and professional development, beyond just our college years.
