Blog Post #11 As a future educator I hope to use data collection (surveys) and Excel to better understand where my students are at when teaching lessons. I've had teachers in the past who will use the anonymous surveys and ask the class to describe how they're feeling about the material and then on a scale from 1-10 rate themselves on how well they feel like they're understanding the content. Based on our responses, our teacher would base his next lesson plans off of it and identify the areas he should go in more depth with. I found this to be extremely helpful as a student. The subject matter could be anything, and this would work best with older kids in high school. The flipped classroom basically consists of learning the material at home and then down worksheets, homework, and other exercises during class time. Essentially, the flipped classroom is doing everything that we do in current classrooms and the work we do at home, and flipping it. Watching he lectures at h...

Blog Journal 10 Technology can help teachers to promote the best learning methods and engage students in an interactive way that makes learning more enjoyable for all. Since technology is ever changing, it's important as educators to continuously stay on top of frequent updates and new areas for growth and improvement. One site that I found that helps to stay on top of common technology trends is: https://www.teach-nology.com/teachers/educational_technology/ This site discusses the technology trends used in the classroom, and is also updated throughout the year. This is useful for teachers to always stay up to date on the latest technology that may have came out recently that they didn't know about before. From the PowerPoint assignments I learned how to create presentations with voice overs and helpful speaking notes for talking in front of others. I also learned who to create animations, transitions, create sound affects, and insert clip art. I liked using PowerPoint b...
Blog post #9 As a speech-language pathology major, I've learned a great deal about assistive listening technology when it comes to students that are Deaf or hard of hearing in the classroom and ways to best help support their learning. People that have hearing aids are able to connect their device to their teachers microphone to best foster their learning and ensure their understanding of what's being said. These devices help support students undeniable right to hear. I've also learned about technology for individuals that are non-verbal, and ways to best help them communicate using an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device. This device can speak for the individual and can communicate their wants, needs, thoughts, and ideas. I have seen hands-on students use these different devices during my observation experiences. I think the challenges that arise from using these technologies is simply the accessibility. For some students, obtaining these devices can c...

Blog Journal #8 The DID model has several key points such as knowing the learners, articulating objectives, establishing the learning environment, identifying teaching and learning strategies, selecting technologies, and evaluating and revising the design. https://www.teacher.org/lesson-plan/fun-fraction-pizza/ I found a lesson plan specifically designed for second grade students related to learning about fractions in math, which goes along with the DID as it is directed towards the specific learners and their learning environment in the classroom. The development component goes along well with the DID model. The lesson plan also lists the specific objectives and outcomes. The lesson plan also consists of teaching and learning strategies by describing the body of the lesson, guided practice, and independent practice. The design also consists of ways to evaluate students knowledge through worksheets and visuals, as well as any modifications that may be needed. However, the de...
Blog post 7 Since I'm a Communication Science Disorders major, I do not wish to maintain a course website. As a future speech-language pathologist, every client that I have will present a different set of communication problems which are private and personal to them. Posting things about my clients would violate the HIPAA laws. For instance, discussing my weekly plans and goals for my patient online could violate their trust and make them feel uncomfortable. However, I'm not opposed to posing activities or general ways to help my client practice target goals. For example, having at home activities available for my patients and their parents to practice at home may help them overcome their disability or disorder at hand, and could enable them to come more prepared to my sessions. I do think course websites could be important to utilize in some contexts such as with at home activities for my patients to practice with, however for teachers I don't think course websites are t...

Blog Journal #6 I found a class page for a 2nd grade class at Amelia Earhart Elementary School. The teacher, Mrs. Haney, uses this page as a way for to communicate to parents and their children about the daily schedule, lesson plans, FAQ's, class projects, and other useful information related to their child's education. This pages allows for the parents to be actively involved in the students academics, and can help further their success in the classroom.   https://earhart.goddardusd.com/49583_3 The Digital Divide affects students success in schools in multiple ways. It's important for teachers to understand the different demographics, economic statuses, and backgrounds in general of every student. Often, there are students in the class who are not exposed to technology simply because they do not have access to it at him. However, other students in the class may be exposed to it daily and are far more advanced than others. This makes it hard to properly teach different...
Blog Journal #5 I chose to look at the ELA standards for kindergarteners. The standards listed were basic and mainly consisted of the students being exposed to different types of technology when it comes to writing. The technology used for this grade involves a SmartBoard, storybook creator websites, and paint programs. I do feel prepared to implement this technology in my classroom as I've been exposed to all of this growing up. I've had to observe/volunteer in education classrooms and have helped kids work with SmartBoards. I also had to use a SmartBoard for one of my previous classes for a presentation. It's important for students to be exposed to technology at a young age so when the complexity of technology progresses over the years, the students are not behind. One tool on CPALMS that I would use in my classroom is the Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs). This involves the use of lesson plans and critical thinking skills. Students use their experiences and knowledge ...

Blog Post #4 My online learning experience didn't begin until I entered college as a freshman. I took my first online class, Art and the Environment, in the 2017 spring semester. I loved the dynamic of being able to work at your own pace, and fitting studying/learning time into my busy schedule whenever I wanted to. The LMS used for all online courses at FSU is canvas, and it's fairly simple to understand. At first, I was afraid to take an online class, thinking that I wasn't going to be able to understand the material all by myself with out having that an in person professor, but as the semester continued I became accustomed to the weekly assignments and projects. The learning was an asynchronous communication. The instructor would post weekly modules with the tasks at hand, the expectations, and at times recorded lectures for the week. While I've enjoyed the few online classes that I've taken during my undergraduate degree, I do feel I learn best in a classroom. ...
Blog Post #3 I have used Microsoft Word as a student from kindergarten to college. However, as I've gotten older I've utilized Microsoft Word more especially while in college and having the ability to take online courses. In elementary school, the majority of assignments were done in class or with a pencil and paper as homework assignments. I mainly used Microsoft Word in elementary school when typing up a book report or typing up my science experiment to put on poster board. However, now I use my Microsoft Word daily, spending hours behind the screen diligently working. In college, I've used Microsoft Word to write essays and to take notes in class. I've seen my teachers use Microsoft Word more so in college than I ever did in elementary school, middle school, and high school. I've witnessed teachers using Microsoft to write lesson plans, create and edit their class syllabus, and to send home information to parents about activities and events coming up. I learne...
There are many things that influence teachers and students to use technology in the classroom. In this day in age technology is unavoidable. It’s everywhere around us and is constantly evolving. As technology is evolving and students are using it more, teachers want to use it in their classrooms too. I think teachers want to use technology because students are using it so often and using technology in their classroom can help to maintain students attention. It can make the lecture and material more appealing to students and can influence active learning in the classroom. After reading the ISTE Standards for Educators, the standard that I found to be most meaningful to me is the leader standard. As a student that’s acquired several leadership roles in high school and college, I’ve seen firsthand how leadership roles can build confidence in students abilities and empower them to make a difference. Additionally, I’ve seen through my observation hours for the Education minor how stude...

Prior Experiences: Technology is used by individuals every day, especially students. I have not had a lot of prior experience when it come to using technology. I know how to use the basic Microsoft applications, but beyond that my experiences are limited. I've learned how to use smart boards in my previous education courses, but that's all of the educational technology I've been exposed to. What I hope to learn: I hope to learn more about the modern technology present in todays age to use as a future educator with my patients as an SLP. Technology is ever changing, so even someone that believes they're experienced with technology can still learn new tricks. I want to learn more about the technology relevant in the classroom to keep students engaged and excited about the content I present. I'm not sure exactly what educational technology is, so I hope to learn more about everything it entails! Learning Style: I learned that I'm an active learner. I value t...
